Printers are the single most reliable source of Mac-related frustration that does not involve the Mac itself. In thirty years of supporting Apple users, I have watched printers derail business presentations and cause otherwise reasonable people to use language they would not use in front of children.
The Inkjet Trap
The €49 inkjet at Worten looks like an excellent deal. What the box does not mention: cartridges cost €18 each, there are four of them, and the printer uses ink even when idle. Leave it two weeks without printing and the heads clog — forty minutes of cleaning cycles before it prints again. Total cost over two years: typically over €300.
The Alternative: Laser Printers
A monochrome laser printer costs €120-200. Toner costs €30-50 and lasts thousands of pages. No idle ink consumption. No clogged heads. Recommended for Mac in Algarve: Brother HL series. AirPrint compatible — your Mac detects it automatically on the same WiFi, no driver installation needed. The Brother HL-L2357DW (wireless, duplex) is available at FNAC Portimão.
AirPrint — The Feature That Makes Everything Simpler
AirPrint is Apple's wireless printing standard. An AirPrint printer on the same WiFi is detected automatically by your Mac — no drivers, no installation, just print. When buying a printer for Mac in Portugal, look for AirPrint compatibility on the box.
Printer not working with your Mac in Lagos?
Printer setup should take five minutes and occasionally takes the entire morning. I sort printer connectivity for Mac clients remotely in twenty minutes usually. Call or message.
